Project VOICE
Project VOICE is a Google research initiative that uses AI to help individuals with speech impairments communicate more easily and express themselves through their own unique words. By leveraging Gemini's advanced predictive text capabilities, the technology intelligently anticipates a user's intended words and phrases, dramatically reducing the number of inputs required for smoother and more natural conversations.
In May 2026, a new phase of the project was announced, featuring Katsuki Ono, a developer and entrepreneur with severe physical disabilities. By fine-tuning the Gemini model with 50,000 items of his own past conversation data, the system was optimized to support his unique way of speaking, evolving the tool into a platform that empowers social participation.
